Layang Layang Flying Academy’s UPRT Train the Trainer (TTT) course certifies instructors to deliver Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM) -approved Advanced UPRT, elevating safety and instructional standards in Malaysia. This intensive program combines ground methodology, scenario-based teaching, and advanced flight demonstrations to develop confident, precision- driven UPRT instructors.

Structure : 10 Hours Ground + 8 Hours Flight

Phase 1: Ground School (10 Hours)
Subjects Covered​
1. Instructional Methodology for UPRT
Principles of effective flight instruction tailored to upset recovery scenarios.

2. TEM in Teaching & Error Management
Integrating Threat and Error Management within UPRT lessons to enhance safety culture.

3. Human Factors & Startle Effect in Training
Understanding pilot psychology, stress response, and recovery behaviour during unexpected upsets.

4. LOC-I Case Studies & Analysis
Review of global incidents, identifying patterns, and integrating lessons into instructional delivery.
5. Designing & Briefing UPRT Lessons
Structuring pre-flight and post-flight briefings for clarity, engagement, and retention.

6. Conducting Effective Debriefs
Reinforcing learning outcomes through structured feedback and reflection.

7. Instructor Evaluation & Assessment Prep
Preparing for Civil Aviation Authority - standard instructor assessments through classroom simulations and oral evaluations.
Phase 2: Flying Phase (8 Hours)
A dynamic, instructor-level flight sequence that refines airborne demonstration techniques, communication under G-load, and the ability to evaluate student recovery performance across multiple upset profiles.

Instructor decision-making under simulated LOC-I conditions
1. (3 hrs) – Cessna 172 Skyhawk
Baseline and instructional handling phase focusing on demonstration pacing, control coordination, and communication techniques in a stable trainer environment.

2. (5 hrs) – GameBird GB-1
Advanced instructor development phase using a high-performance aerobatic aircraft for exposure to full-envelope recovery, spin, and spiral- dive demonstrations.

Training Components:

​Baseline Assessment Flight — Evaluates each instructor candidate’s existing handling, precision, and situational awareness prior to formal training.

Dual Demonstration Flights (Cessna 172 & GameBird GB-1) — Conducted with an examiner to develop demonstration pacing, corrective feedback, and energy management under dual-control environments.

Summative Evaluation Flights — Final assessment flights where the candidate conducts full instructional sequences — briefing, demonstration, recovery, and debrief — under examiner observation.

Step 1 – Contact Admissions
Reach out to Layang Layang Flying Academy (LLFA) via email or WhatsApp to express your interest in either the Advanced UPRT or Train the Trainer (TTT) course.

Step 2 - Submit Documents
Provide a copy of your pilot licence, medical certificate, and passport or ID. For TTT applicants, include your Instructor Rating and flight experience summary.

Step 3 – Verification & Slot Confirmation
Layang Layang team will review your eligibility and confirm available training slots. UPRT programs run in small batches to ensure maximum flight time and individual attention.

Step 4 – Receive Letter of Offer
Once verified, you’ll receive an official Letter of Offer outlining course details, schedule, and payment structure. A booking fee of RM 5,000 secures your seat in the upcoming batch

Step 5 – Prepare for Training
You’ll receive the UPRT Training Pack, which includes briefing material, attire guide, and schedule. All participants must arrive with a valid Class 1 or Class 2 medical.

Step 6 – Orientation & Commencement
Report to Layang Layang Ipoh Campus, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, for ground and flight sessions.
Pre-requisites
The Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) program is a specialised flight course designed for licensed pilots and instructor candidates. Before you enrol, you must:
For Advanced UPRT (Student):

18 years old and above

Hold a valid PPL, CPL, or ATPL licence (or be an active CPL/ATPL cadet) Hold a valid Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Certificate

Proficient in English

Physically fit for G-load manoeuvres

For Train the Trainer (TTT – Instructor):

Hold a valid Flight Instructor Rating (FI)

Hold a valid CPL or ATPL licence with Class 1 Medical
